Located in the heart of the Old Town (in two separate squares, Alter Markt and Heumarkt), this market pays homage to the Heinzelmännchen – legendary house gnomes said to do the locals' housework while they slept. On the banks of the Rhine right outside the Chocolate Museum, this market takes on a maritime theme. 70 snow-white pagoda tents replace traditional wooden huts, and stall holders wear nautical costumes. You'll eat specialities like fish finger sandwiches, buy mulled wine from pirates, and hear sea shanties! St. Nicholas Village

Particularly popular with families, the Nikolausdorf (Village of St Nicholas) has a fairy tale atmosphere on the Rudolfplatz. The half-timbered chalets and cosy lanes feel like a medieval village, under the shadow of the 13th-century Hahnentorburg castle gatehouse. The glühwein is sold in delightful boot-shaped mugs!
